About the Topic:

“Smith’s Rules – Fifteen Rules to Help Manage the Supply Chain”

Supply Chain Management is a leading driver of nearly every organization’s revenue, growth, and profit and directly impacts its success.  During my 40+ year career I’ve learned some facts about supply chains.  They may not be immutable such as Newton’s Laws of Motion, but they are, I believe, unshakable enough to be called rules for supply chain professionals and useful at any stage of their career.  These “facts” have now morphed into a list I call Smith’s Rules for Supply Chains.

The list offered in this presentation did not come in the form of a vision or some brilliant flash of genius.  They were learned.  Some were learned through hard, painful experiences.  Others were begged, borrowed, or shamefully stolen from supply chain professionals who are far smarter and wiser than I am.  They are not meant to be a complete list, and I invite the reader to make additions to them at his or her discretion.

 Learning Objectives

1.  The four elements that must be present in all supply chains.
2.  The new paradigm for the post-pandemic era.
3.  The truth about "Free Shipping."
